Dornie Bridge on Loch Duich - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT

This panoramic picture was more a study in black and white then colour. The rains had approached and the whole sky darkly overcast. Not a touristy picture of Scotland maybe, but certainly a realistic view over Loch Duich and Loch Long from Dornie Bridge near to the Eilean Donan Castle.

Dornie Bridge on Loch Duich - FURTHER INFORMATION

Dornie Bridge on Loch Duich - Scottish Highlands visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Dornie Bridge on Loch Duich' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Highland.

Panorama from the Dornie Bridge, which crosses the mouth between Loch Duich and Loch Long at the point where Loch Duich joins Loch Alsh. These three sea lochs in Scotland are near to Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye. The white buildings in the foreground belong to the hamlet of Ardelve. Along the loch, the hamlet of Sallachy is visible and this road continues along Loch Long ending at Camusluinnie and the Killilan Estate where one can walk to the Falls of Glomach - the tallest waterfall in the British Isles.

The picture shows the slipway next to one leading down to the waters of the loch. To the left of this Eilean Donan Castle, a very popular tourist attraction in the area, can be seen on a little island in the loch. On the opposite side of Loch Duich is Beinn a'Chuirn (603m). Further round to the left on the other side of the road the small village of Dornie lines the shore of Loch Long below the hill of Carn Bad Chreamha (634m). Loch Long runs up between this and Beinn Conchra (453m).

Dornie village is a peaceful place with lots of Bed and Breakfast accommodation catering for the large numbers of tourists who flock here - yet manage not to spoil the tranquility for each other.

Travel and Getting There
Loch Duich is on the A87, the mouth of Loch Duich is 8 miles from Kyle of Lochalsh. At the end of Loch Duich the road climbs Glen Shiel to Loch Cluanie and Glen Moriston on the way to Inverness.
