The Palace and Quinta da Regaleira were built in the early twentieth century, the imagination of its owner, Antonio Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, and the architect responsible for the project, the Italian Luigi Manini.
The palace is situated on the mountainside and the short distance the Historical Center of Sintra. Most of the current construction of the fifth began in 1904 and was completed in 1910. Carvalho Monteiro had the wish to build a grandiose space in which to live surrounded by all the symbols that reflect the interests and ideologies. A true inspiration alchemical philosopher's mansion.
Conservative monarchy and Christian, Carvalho Monteiro keen to resurrect the past most glorious of Portugal, there the predominance of neomanuelino style with its connection to the discoveries. This evocation of the past is also supported by some of Gothic art and classical elements.
