Glen Moriston - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Very much a tourist promotion panorama, bright sunlight and patchy skies over Glen Moriston. The kind of picture that says 'come walk here', but don't be fooled, for the next rain fall is just over the hill. I had contemplated trying to get down to River Moriston to take this panoramic photograph, but was advised that the sheep with newborn lambs might be hostile.
Glen Moriston - FURTHER INFORMATION
Glen Moriston - Scottish Highlands visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Glen Moriston' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Highland.
Panorama over Glen Moriston in the Scottish Highlands. This panoramic photograph was taken near to Dundreggan in Glen Morriston. The picture overlooks some fields near to River Moriston where sheep are grazing.
Most of the area around this long river valley is cultivated farmland for keeping sheep. This panorama was taken in the late spring and these fields were full of very protective ewes with their newborn lambs.
The small village of Invermoriston is further east of here where the road splits to run north and south along Loch Ness. There's a clog and craft shop and tearoom for visitors.
About 7 miles along the glen from Invermoriston, just a mile west of this point, are the famous Footprints. A small gate leads to a standing stone behind which are two footprints embedded into rock. In 1827, a travelling preacher Finlay Munro, gave a sermon in Invermoriston which upset locals who heckled and shouted at him. He replied that the ground upon which he stood would bear witness to the truth of what he said until the Day of Judgement. To this day, those footprints remain.
