Welcome to the Map of Prague (Czech: Praha), the capital city of the Czech Republic and one of the most popular travel destinations in Europe. This virtual tour of Prague contains numerous panoramic photographs and pictures taken from around this historical city linked to an interactive Google map of Prague. Each panorama is accompanied with some description of what can be seen in the picture and what is to be found nearby. The opening image of this tour of Prague is from the Old Town Square (Czech: Staroměstské náměstí).

Cheap Prague hotel deals and cheap local flights have ensured that Prague city breaks remain a favourite among Europeans seeking weekend city breaks. The architecture has remained un-affected by war or natural disaster for over 600 years, making Prague arguably the most beautiful city in Europe. In 1992 the historic center of Prague was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, which has only increased the popularity of the city as a travel destination.

Introduction to Prague

Prague is the largest city in the Czech Republic. Prague lies on the River Vltava in central Bohemia and has remained the center of political, cultural an economic power of the Czech people for over 1000 years, growing up along trade routes in the area. The first people to settle here may have been the Boii Celtic tribe in about 500 BC. In the second half of the 9C the Czech Prince Bořivoj Přemyslovec moved his seat of power to Prague and established Prague Castle. Since then Prague Castle has remained the seat of Czech power and is today the home of the Czech president.

Sights and Attractions of Prague

Prague contains many famous sights and attractions, most thankfully intact due to the lack of war and other calamities to afflict other European cities. Many famous sights are centred around the Old Town and Prage Castle. At the center of the Old Town is Town Square (Czech: Staroměstské náměstí), famous for Jan Hus Monument, the Astronomical Clock, the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn, and St. Nicholas Church.

Crossing the famous Charles Brige (Karlův most) over the Volta from the Old Town brings vistitors to Lesser Town (Malá Strana) of Prague. Here steep roads lead up to Prague Castle, and on the way you will find St Nicholaus church on the Malostranské náměstí and the Church of Our Lady Victorious, famous for the Infant Jesus of Prague (Pražské Jezulátko).
