Also known as San Pancrazio, this is the larger of two islands close to Brissago and Ascona on Lake Maggiore.
It is now famous for its botanical gardens which cover the whole island. A wide range of subtropical plants grow in its particularly mild climate, such as palm trees, bamboo, cypress, ferns, banana trees and many more.
