The world famous 29km long Chesil Beach stretches from West Bay at Bridport, to the Isle of Portland.
Over the centuries, the pebbles have been finely graded from one end to the other by the tides, with the smallest being in the west, and the largest at Portland in the east.
It is said that fishermen landing at night can judge their position along the beach by the size of the pebbles.
