Sheringham Railway Station NNR - FURTHER INFORMATION
Sheringham Railway Station NNR - Sheringham visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Sheringham Railway Station NNR' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Norfolk.
The old Sheringham Station is more than just a railway station. It is now part of the Poppy Line, North Norfolk Railways, serving a heritage steam railway in Norfolk and a local tourist attraction. The station first opened in 1887, built with a classic E&M style pavilion which has been faithfully restored. Inside, visitors will find an an attractive Ticket Hall and also houses a museum signal box, souvenir shop.
The buffet hall and museum are found on Platform 1. At the end of platform 2 is a replica water crane that would have served steam trains in past times. Just past the bridge is a water tower, built in M&GN style. On platform 3 is a wooden-bodied carriage which contains interactive chldrens' activities relevant to railway history. There are plans for further restoration of other parts of the station to the original form.
Poppy Line - North Norfolk Railway
The Poppy Line heritage steam railway runs through 5 miles of Norfolk countryside from Sheringham to Holt, stopping at Weybourne and Kelling Heath en route. The line is now managed by the North Norfolk Railway (NNR) who run a series of events throughout the year with both steam and diesel trains. The Poppy Line won Independent Railway of the Year award in 2006 and is a local tourist attraction, manned mostly by local volunteers.ADDRESS
