Royal Gardens - Kralovska zahrada - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Kralovska zahrada, or the Royal Gardens, are a very relaxing place to be. Away from the crowds of Prague Castle itself and immaculately kept it is easy to pass time in these gardens. This panoramic picture was taken from the top of steps between two areas. On the each side of stairs facing east is a lion bearing a shield.

Panoramic photograph from western end of the Royal Gardens (Královská zahrada). The Royal Gardens lie just to the north of Prague Castle, the top attraction in Prague. Along the west edge of Královská zahrada runs Rašný most (Powder Bridge), which enters the second courtyard of Prague Castle where there area ticket offices and shops for the castle tours. On the northern edge of the gardens is Zahradní dům, built as a summer house and now serving as a Presidential residence. At the eastern ends of the Royal Gardens are the gardens of the Bleveldér with the Singing Fountain (Zpívající, fontána).
Královská zahrada was laid out by Emperof Ferdinand I in the 1530's and then destroyed during the 30 years war by the Saxons and Swedes. It was later blown up by the Prussians, but saved from the French in 1741 by the payment of 30 pineapples. It was here that tulips were first imported into Europe and acclimatized before being taken to the Netherlands. As can be seen from the panorama, the gardens are immaculately kept. The planting in the shape of the Royal Crest can be seen on the satellite image on the Google map if you zoom in enough.
