Carn Brea Castle Restaurant - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT

This panorama of Carn Brea Castle Restaurant was very interesting to take. The views from the top of the hill and the nearby Carn Brea Monument (seen as a silhouette on the horizon in this picture) over Cornwall were amazing, and the clouds in the sky quite dramatic. So also was the wind, which was strong enough to blow over the tripod and camera. The only stable place was to shelter behind the rocks while taking the panorama. The restaurant is very small, but very popular and makes for an interesting building perched on the rocks like this.

Cornwall virtual tour with a 360° panorama of 'Carn Brea Castle Restaurant' linked to a Google map. A Cornwall attractions travel guide.

This panorama shows Carn Brea Castle near to Redruth in Cornwall. The castle is a 14th century stone twin towered fortress which was built by the Bassett family. It stands on top of a Neolithic Iron Age hill fort which dates back to between 3700 and 3400 BC. As can be seen in this picture, the castle gives a commanding view over the surrounding area. Carn Brea Castle may have been built as a hunting lodge or a chapel. Today it has been converted into a restaurant with spectacular panoramic views.

There is also a monument nearby, which can be seen silhuetted against the sun in this picture on the sumit of Carn Brea. This 90 foot high granite monument is called 'The Basset Memorial'. It was built in 1836 in memory of Lord Francis Basset, one of the major mine owners in the Camborne-Redruth mining district at that time. Lord Francis Basset later became Lord de Dunstanville.
