Kaimu Beach - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Kaimu Beach is a 'new' black sand beach. New in the sense that the old beach was buried under recent lava flows which totally destroyed the well developed beach resort and hotels that used to be here. Following tradition, new palm trees have been planted on the beach and life is slowly beginning to return. It will be some time before the hotels come back though. The coarse black sand is the result of interaction of sea water on hot lava causing it to shatter.
