This panorama shows the nature of the rocky beaches on the souther coast of Hawaii Island. The waves from the ocean crash directly onto the shore. Children were happily launching themselves into the sea or fishing from the rocks. There is little here for tourists, and those using Isaac Hale Beach Park appeared to be locals.

Panorama taken from Isaac Hale Beach Park in the Puna District of Hawaii Island about 26 miles from Hilo and 7 miles from Pāhoa. The beach is on the eastern edge of Pohoiki Bay and has a State maintained boat ramp. As can be seen in this panoramic picture, the area is rocky and there is no large beach. However, the area is good for diving as the ocean floor is rocky, though the strong wave action on the surface is not so good for snorkelling. Local fisherman use the area to launch their boats. The area has numerous thermal pools dotted around the surrounding jungle.

Travel and Getting There:
Follow the I-11 to Kea'au, then the H-130 to Pahoa followed by H-132 past Lava Tree State Monument to Kumukahi Lighthouse. Just before the lighthouse the H-137 turns right along the coast. Isaac Hale Beach Park is near the Mile-11 marker.
