Papya Orchards - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
I had never seen papaya orchards before so this was a great opportunity to take a panoramic picture. In this image you can just make out the bunches of Papaya fruits hanging in clusters near the tops of the trees. It is always interesting to see where the fruit we take for granted so often comes from and what the plants it grows on looks like.
Papya Orchards - FURTHER INFORMATION
Papya Orchards - Hawaii Island visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Papya Orchards' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Hawaii.
Panorama of the Papaya Orchards found on the H137 road between the Lava Lava Tree State Monument, just south of Pahoa, on the way to Kumukahi Lighthouse and Isaac Hale Beach Park. The climate in Puna is much wetter than that on the western side of Hawaii near Kailua-Kona, and there fruit grow well here. These orchards are evidence that while the volcanoes on Hawaii can be very destructive, once past the lava is very fertile and over time is good for growing new crops.
Travel and Getting There:
Follow the I-11 to Kea'au, then the H-130 to Pahoa followed by the 132 towards the Kumukahi Lightouse. The Papya Orchards are about 2 miles past the Lava Tree State Monument.
