Seven Sisters - West Brow - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
West Brow is the last hill before Beachy Head when walking from Seaford. This hand held panorama was taken on that walk in July 2012. The lighthouse visible in this virtual tour image was a welcome site, marking that the end was in view as it stands beneath Beach Head.

West Brow is not part of the Seven Sisters, but is the hill that links the Belle Tout Lighthouse Hotel with Beachy Head west of Eastbourne on the South Downs coastline. It is the second to last ascent on a popular, 13 mile walking route on the South Downs Way that starts at Seaford in the west and finishes in Eastbourne.
The Seven Sisters Hills
The first of the Seven Sisters themselves are a highlight of coastal walks here. They start just east of Cuckmere Haven and end by descending into Birling Gap. In order the hills and dips, or bottoms, between them are:- Haven Brow followed by Short Bottom.
- Short Brow followed by Limekiln Bottom.
- Rough Brow followed by Rough Bottom.
- Brass Point followed by Gap Bottom.
- Flagstaff Point (and Flagstaff Brow) followed by Flagstaff Bottom.
- Flat Hill followed by Flathill Bottom.
- Baily's Hill followed by Michel Dean
- Went Hill Brow followed by the final descent to Birling Gap.
These coastline here is subject to sea-erosion and is retreating at a rate of about 40cm per year as the cliffs collapse. The beaches below the cliffs can be accessed at Hope Gap Beach, Cuckmere Haven and the Birling Gap, offering great opportunities for rock-poll explorations at low tide.
