Tower Beach is the mid-section of 7km of coastline and three beaches that collectively are known as Wreck Beach. North of Tower Beach lies Acadia Beach and south of it is Wreck Beach proper, the most popular part of the beaches. About 6.7km of these beaches is 'clothing optional', or nudist, beach. Wreck Beach is placed among the top 5 beaches of Vancouver and on a good weekend can draw up to 14,000 visitors.
The beach lies within Pacific Spirit Regional Park and borders University Endowment Lands of the University of British Columbia. Aside from a path leading down to the Acadia Beach section, there are several steep and stepped trails that lead down to other sections of the beach. This virtual tour shows one of the abandoned WWII towers at the bottom of Trail 3. A little further south Trail 4 descends down to the beach from the Museum of Anthropology. Wreck Beach proper is accessed via the 542 wooden steps of Trail 6.
Every year since 1996, Wreck Beach has hosted the 5km long, naturist, Wreck Beach Bare Buns Run. The beach has also hosted organised Skinny Dipping events.
