This juxtaposition between a black, rough and rugged a'a lava flow and the pristine golf course on Hawai'i appealed to me, so I took a panorama. The panoramic picture also shows the fantastic skies painted with wispy clouds that are often a feature of the Hawaii skyline. A'a lava is not easy to walk on, unstable and never level.

Panorama of an a'a lava flow at the end of Alii Drive near to Kailua-Kona on Hawaii Island. This panoramic picture shows how the area has been developed since the last lava flow. There are two golf courses nearby run by the Kona Country Club. These are the Alii Mountain Course, where the lava field runs through the middle of the golf course, and the Ocean Golf Course just below where this image was shot.

Near to here is Keauhou Bay and the large Kona Surf Resort.

Travel and Getting There:
Alii Drive runs south from Kailua Kona past a number of beaches until this point.
