Kuakini Highway - Kamehameha III Road - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
I was walking along this road and the view caught my eye. Actually, this was a lesson in just how much Hawaii Island does not have a public transport system, and having stopped to take this panoramic photograph I then had to walk back down the hill to the beaches. I like this panorama for the contrasting colours in the picture and the ocean horizon below vivid blue skies.

Kuakini Highway - Kamehameha III Road - Hawaii Island visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Kuakini Highway - Kamehameha III Road' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Hawaii.
Panorama taken from near the junction between the Kuakini Highway (H-11) and Kamehameha III Road near to Kailua-Kona on Hawaii Island. The Kuakini Highway forms part of the Hawaii Belt Road that virtually encircles the island. This road heads south from Kailua-Kona to Ka Lae and South Point before curving round through to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and then on to Hilo. North of this junction, the road becomes the H-19 Queen Kaahumanu Highway, and heads up to Kawaihae near to Hapuna Beach before heading across the north peninsula through Waimea and then back down the east coast to Hilo.
Kamehameha III Road links the H-11 with Alii Drive close to Keahou Bay, and then heads north into Kailua-Kona passing Kahaluu Beach Park, Magic Sands Beach and Halualoa Bay on the way. There is a lookout point offering panoramic views over the area part way down Kamehameha III Road as it descends the hill side.
