This beach appealed to me as it had a shoreline made of Pahoehoe lava. The smooth flows are easy to walk on. This panoramic picture shows how, over time, life has begun to reclaim the land and a small beach has built up on the lea side of the lava flow. If you look carefully at the image, you can make out people at the far end of the beach.

From Kailua-Kona take the I-8 (Queen Kaahumanu Highway) north for 3 miles. A small left turn leads from the highway down Kealakehe Parkway. This road, also called Hale O Lono Heiau, leads to Gentry's Kona Marina.
