Holoholokai Beach Park - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
I love this kind of coastline. Tourists may not like lying on rocks at Holoholokai Beach Park, but then most of those are using the rest of the luxury facilities of the Mauna Lani Resort. This panoramic picture shows the rugged rocky beach at this park, where there are truly ancient a'a lava flows, covered in white boulders spilling into the aquamarine waters under a deep blue sky.

Holoholokai Beach Park - Hawaii Island visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Holoholokai Beach Park' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Hawaii.
Panorama from the coast of Holoholokai Beach Park on the west coast of Hawaii Island. This beach park is next to the Fairmont Orchid Hotel in the Mauna Lani Resort at Kalahuipuo'a. This is the northernmost beach in the Kohala Resort area and, as this panoramic picture shows, it is mostly a rocky shore. However, being so close to one of the most luxurious resorts on Hawaii, the beach park has excellent facilities, and it is well worth exploring the ancient sites nearby.
The Mauna Lani resort is built upon lava flows that date back over 10,000 years. The surrounding area is full of ancient archaeological sites like the Puako Petroglyph Archeological Preserve.
Travel and Getting There:
Take Highway 19 north from Kailua-Kona toward the Kohala Resort Area. Turn left into the resort between the 74 and 73 Mile Stones. Take a right at the first major intersection and then bear left at the 'Y' junction. Take the next right and follow the road to the car park at the end.
