1868 Lava Flow from Alika Cone

Photographer Description of 1868 Lava Flow from Alika Cone

The pahoehoe lava flow here is quite different to the 1907 a'a flow near to Ocean View Estates just back up the road. You can really see these lava flows on the satellite view of this part of Hawaii, black tongues of lava flowing down Mauna Loa towards the sea.

1868 Lava Flow from Alika Cone - Further Information

Panorama taken near to Kahuku of the 1868 pahoehoe lava flow from the Alika Cone. The most recent flows from this cone were in the 1950's. This lava flow is just east of another 1907 lava flow near to the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. This lava flow is just west of the junction to South Point, about 13 miles from Naalehu.
