St. Levan - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Panorama showing the small church at St Levan. This tiny little church was really tucked away down a path that seemed to progressively get narrower than the car I was driving. As can be seen, this ancient church is set in a small graveyard on the side of a hill.
St. Levan - FURTHER INFORMATION
St. Levan - Penwith visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'St. Levan' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Cornwall.
The settlement of St. Levan (Cornish: Sen Selevan) in Cornwall, and the church, are named after a sixth century monk who lived in the area. On the south side of the Church near the porch is a rock known as the St Levan Stone. In pre-Christian times, the stone was worshipped in connection with fertility rights. Interestingly, though the Christians did not destroy the stone, they did build a 7 foot high cross nearby.
