Gwithian Beach - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
The tide was low when I took this panoramic picture over Gwithian Beach. Miles of exposed sand, yet it seemed obvious that at high tide all of this would be covered. The pillars of rock sticking straight out of the sand, like the one shown in this picture, caught my eye. Easy to see why this beach is so popular with surfers.

Panorama from the hills above Gwithian Beach near to Halye on North Cornwall. The beach to the east of the mouth of River Hayle in St. Ives Bay. To the other side of the river is Carbis Bay and St. Ives. Gwithian beach has one of the longest stretches of golden sand in the whole of Cornwall. Receiving good northerly and westerly swells, it is very a popular destination amongst the surfing fraternity and the best waves are at mid to low tide. This picture was taken near to a massive trailer and caravan site on the top of the cliffs, which forms a holiday resort in the area. There is much more accomodation and hotels in the nearby towns.
Travel and Getting There:
Take the B3301 road from Hayle to Portreath. The small town of Gwithian, and Gwithian Beach, are about two miles north of Hale. Further on is Hells Mouth and the North Cliffs.
