Patchins Point is one of the landmarks of the that stretches around Arne Bay into Poole Harbour. This is an area of salt marsh, a fragile ecosystem lying on mud flats and home to numerous wading birds. The satellite view of the Google map of Poole Harbour also shows some open clay pits further east on Arne.
It is possible to walk out along Patchins Point, though walkers should keep dogs on leads at all times, and respect the needs of wildlife in the area. From here there are views all the way over to Poole and Poole Quay to the north, as well as east to Brownsea Island, the largest island in Poole Harbour. Beyond this lies Sandbanks and Shell Bay, linked by the Sandbanks Ferry. To the south and west the view extends over the Isle of Purbeck and the Purbeck Hills which run from Swanage to Corfe Castle and beyond.
