The RNLI (The Royal National Lifeboat Institution) HQ and training centre is built on the shores of Holes Bay at Poole, near to the entrance leading to Poole Quay and Poole Harbour. In addition to RNLI training, parts of the building, which contain various conference rooms, restaurants and bars, can be hired for private events, functions, wedding and business meetings. Dining in the upper bar area with panoramic views over Holes Bay can not fail to impress. The RNLI Centre holds various events and exhibitions during the year to promote safety and demonstrate the capabilities of various boats.The RNLI has served the seas around Britain for nearly 200 years saving over 137,000 lives in that time. The boats are all manned by volunteers, who undergo extensive training before becoming an RNLI crew member. Being an RNLI crew member is not without risk, as, obviously, the RNLI is often only called upon in dangerous seas. So far almost 20 lifeboats and over 170 crew have been lost at sea while attempting rescue. One of the most common causes of death at sea amongst pleasure boats are faulty and poorly maintained life jackets.

Boat: a great way to see the RNLI buildings, but no mooring nearby.
Car: The RNLI Headquarters and Training College are just off West Quay Road.
