The Victoria Embankment Gardens lie along the Embankment in the center of London between Waterloo Bridge and Westminster Bridge. They form part of the plans for Embankment drawn up by Joseph Bazalgette in the 19th century. The Embankment Gardens are actually a collection of separate gardens along the Embankment, the ones shown in this picture are next to Embankment Station.
Within the gardens are various statues, grassed areas, benches, ponds, ornamental plantings and seating areas. They are very popular in the summer months with those who work in the area. For visitors, they make a welcome break while visiting London. Nearby attractions include the Strand, Trafalgar Square, Parliament Square, Westminster Palace and Westminster Abbey. On the opposite side of the river is the London Eye, London Aquarium and various theatres and galleries on the South Bank like Queen Elizabeth Hall and Royal Festival Hall.
