Lulworth Cove - West Side - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panoramic image of Lulworth Cove was taken very late in the day, around 7:30pm. I had just taken some pictures of Durdle Door and then hoofed it over the hill to try to catch Lulworth cove before the sun went behind the cliffs. I managed it. Just. But was quite out of breath by the end. You have to do the hike to know just how much these hills on the south coast of Dorset go up and down.

A panoramic picture taken from the west side of Lulworth Cove just below the cliffs that lead to Stair Hole, famous for the Lulworth Crumple. Lulworth Cove is a world famous cove, not only as a site of outstanding natural beauty, but also as a classical text-book example of sea erosion through hard rock (in this case limestone) to softer rock (clay) behind it, leading to the development of a circular with a narrow entrance. Such coves provide natural protected anchoring places, and not surprisingly there are always yachts and boats at anchor or moored in the bay. Fishing has played a long part in the history of Lulworth. This area has become a major tourist attraction and there area numerous hotels and Bed and Breakfast (B&B) places scattered around. Many people walk over the hills to Durdle Door and Man o'War. On the way over there are panoramic views over Lulworth and the cove along the main path, while those walking up to the very top of the hill are rewarded with panoramic views over the hills of Dorset. Lulworth and the surrounding area are part of a World Heritage Site and the Jurassic Coast.
