Pahoehoe Lava at Punaluu Beach Park - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panoramic picture was taken from the pahoehoe lava spit to the west of Black Sand Beach at Punaluu Beach Park. It was fun to rest here a bit and watch the waves crashing against the lava forming a dramatic contrast of white spray against the deep black lava flow and the intense blue sea. Scrub has grown back as far is it can, and as the island rises clouds form on the slopes of Mauna Loa over the Ka'u Forest Reserve. Photos like this are always a pleasure to take. You may notice that the image has 3 replicates of the same man in it. Taken early on in my panoramic photographic history, I had not yet learnt to account for people moving about.
