About Anhui
The province of Anhui (Ānhuī, An-hui) lies on the eastern side of China. The area is rich in history and popular with tourists. It coveres 139,400 km2 and is home to over 59 million people. Through it flow the Yangtze River, Wan River and Huai River. Around it are the provinces of iangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Henan and Shandong and the capital city of Anhui is Hefei, which is over 2000 years old. The region is divided into 17 prefectures, each focussed around a city full of history. These are Anqing, Bengbu, Bozhou, Chaohu, Chizhou, Chuzhou, Fuyang, Hefei (Provincial capital), Huaibei, Huainan, Huangshan, Lu'an, Ma'anshan, Suzhou, Tongling, Wuhu and Xuancheng.
Tourist Attractions in Anhui
- Mount Huangshan - World Heritage Site, jagged mountains with stunning landscape, temples and walking.
- Xidi and Hongcun (Hong Village) - ancient historic villages in souther Anhui which, combined, are classified as a World Heritage Site.
- Mount Jiuhua - known also as Jǐuhuá Shān (Nine Glorious Mountains) is one of the four sacred mountains in Chinese Buddhism and is full of shrines and temples.
- Mount Qiyun - 'As High as the Clouds' this mountain, just west of Huangshan City, is sacred to Taoists. It is also known as 'Landform of the Rosy Clouds' due to the red rock.
- Mount Tianzhu - Tiān Zhù Shān (Heaven pillar mount) contains the Mystery Valley, a windy maze like valley formed by falling rocks with over 50 caves.
- Old Town of Tunxi - a small area in Yellow Mountain City lined with very old shops.
- Erzu Temple on Mount Sikong - built in 552 and reconstructed in 743, the temple has 5,048 rooms. It is near to Anqing.
- Sanzu Temple on Mount Fenghuang - built during the Southern Dynasties (420-589), it contains the Thousand-Buddha Hall, and the Mahavira Hall, and enshrines the largest white marble statue of Sakyamuni in eastern China
- Shouxian, Lu'an Area - established about 2000 years ago on the banks of Huaihe River and at the foot of Mount Shouxian. The city has well preserved city walls and contains the Tomb of King Liu An, Anfeng Pond, the , the Pearl Spring, Bao'en Temple, and Kuiguang Pavilion.
