West Coast - Guide, Map and 360° Panoramas

The West Coast is one of the most sparsely populated regions of New Zealand. The region runs down the western side of New Zealand's South Island and is made up of three districts, Buller, Grey and Westland. To the north is Nelson. Down the western side are the regions of Canterbury and Otago. To the south is Southland and the western side is bounded by the Pacific Ocean. The principle towns are Greymouth, Hokitika and Westport. This map and guide shows some of the sights of the West Coast region. Each location is accompanied by a 360%deg; panorama and some local information. Today the West Coast is famous for it's natural wonders such as Fox Glacier and Franz Josef Glacier, where people flock to tour the glaciers and taken helicopter rides over them. The drive along the West Coast has been named among the most dramatic drives on Earth. Highway 6 links the southern end of the West Coast with Wanaka and the Queenstown-Lakes District in Central Otago via the dramatic Haast Pass. To the north, just south of Greymouth, Highway 73 leads through the mountains to Canterbury through Arthur's Pass. The 6 continues north to Nelson.
