About the Channel Islands
The Channel Islands are a group of islands in the English Channel. They are nearer to Normandy coast of
French than they are to
Engalnd and are divided into the two autonomous 'bailiwicks' of
Guernsey and Jersey, the two largest islands in the group.
As a whole, the Channel Islands include Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm, Jethou, Brecqhou (Brechou), and Lihou. There are also a number of uninhabited islets (the Minquiers, Écréhous, Les Dirouilles and Les Pierres de Lecq (the Paternosters), which are important nature reserves. The Channel Islands are a popular tourist destination, especially with families seeking to get away from the busier beach resorts on the mainland.
