This Essex guide is part of the England guide. It contains an interactive map of Essex showing some of the areas of interest. In each area you will find some local information along with beautiful 360° panoramas taken by local and travelling photographers. This growing collection of panoramic images provides a great way to explore Essex as you plan your visit. Essex is an ancient county in England. The easter edge of Essex borders the North Sea and the southern edge of the county ends at the northern side of the Thames Estuary. Essex also shares borders with the counties of Kent, Greater London, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. The main city within Essex is Colchester. Essex is very close to London and part of the commuter belt for workers in the city. Part of the county occupies the London Green Belt which restricts development in the area. There are numerous National Trust or English Heritage sites scattered throughout the county and Epping Forest is a popular location. Some of the other places of interest include Audley End, Colchester Castle, Colne Valley Railway, Hedingham Castle, the secret nuclear bunker at Kelvedon Hatch, St Peter-on-the-Wall, Waltham Abbey, Colchester Zoo and Orsett Hall.
