Within the region is the famous city of Bordeaux, internationally reputed for it's wine and vineyards. The town of Périgord Pourpre is set in the heart of this wine growing area. Further east is the historic medieval town of Saint-Astier where a weekly farmers market sells the fruit and vegetable produced in the surrounding agricultural farms and market gardens.
