Friuli-Venezia Giulia Guide and Map
Friuli-Venezia Giulia is a region in the Northeastern corner of
Italy, sometimes simply called 'Fruli'. The region is rarely mentioned in guide books about Italy, but, partly because of this, has a lot to offer to the visitor. Friuli-Venezia Giulia borders the Veneto region of Italy to the west. To the north and east lie
Austria and
Slovenia and to the south is the Adriatic Sea. This map and guide contains panoramic images from around the region. Each 360° panorama is accompanied by some local information. This provides a growing on line guide to Friuli-Venezia Giulia as more images are added. The pictures are provided by those who either live in or have visited Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
The capital city of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region Trieste, a beautiful historic city with ancient buildings, churches and castles and ruins that date back to Roman times. Much of the region is covered by mountains and new ski areas are being opened up. These mountains therefore provide all-year round holiday opportunities with walking and climbing in the summer and winter sports and skiing in the winter months. Tourism is becoming increasingly important to the economy of the region. Favorite ski areas here include Piancavallo, Forni di Sopra, Ravascletto, Sella Nevea and the area around Tarvisio.
Friuli-Venezia Giulia also borders the Adriatic Sea, along which are picturesque seaside towns which have not suffered from over development seen elsewhere. Both Grado and Lignano Sabbiardoro, with a wide open beach, are becoming popular.
