Timiş is the largest county (judeţ) in Romania. It is called 'Temes' in Hungarian, 'Tamiš' (Тамиш) in Serbian and 'Timiš' Banat Bulgarian. Situated in western Romania and named after the Timiş River, Timiş shares internal borders with the Romanian counties of Hunedoara, Arad and Caraş-Severin. Timiş shares international boundaries with Serbia and Hungary.

The county seat of Timiş is Timişoara, which is also the main tourist destination. Other important destinations include Lugoj, the Buziaş Resort, important castles at Banloc and Carani and the region around Făget. Timiş also has plenty of opportunities for walking, hunting and fishing.
