About Zilina Region

Žilina Region occupies part of northern Slovakia with Poland to the north and the Czech Republic too the west. Most of the region is mountainous (Western Carpathians mountains) and covered with forest, forming the Váh river basin. The capital city of the region is Zilina, which is an important transit link between several cities in Europe, with Bratislava and Vienna to the south, Krakow and Warsaw to the north, Kosice and Ukraine to the east and Ostrava and Prague to the west. For tourists, the main attractions are the natural beauty created by the geographical diversity, filled with rivers and valleys. Many of the towns and cities, like Zilina and Martin contain important historical buildings and monuments. The mountains offer all kinds of year-round outdoor activities and sports. Among the top attractions in the region are:

• Water Sports - on the lakes formed by the Oravska prichrada and Liptovska Mara dams.
• Thermal Baths - often set in beautiful surroundings in places like Rajecke Teplice, Lucky, Turcianske Teplice, Korytnica and Lubochna.
• Caving - Demanovska ladova, jaskyna Slobody, Vazecka jaskyna caves found in the Low Tatras mountains.
