About the Canton of Bern
Bern is the second most populated canton in Switzerland, and also the name of the canton's capital city. Some of the most spectacular mountains in Switzerland are in the canton of Bern, especially in the Bernese Oberland and Eastern Oberland. Here peaks such as the Finsteraarhorn rise to 4,274m (14,022 ft). The area is vary famous for skiing, particularly around Interlaken and the Jungfrau mountain. Here are world class ski areas which include Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, and Gimmelwald and Grindelwald, along with Wengen, which is car free. The presence of mountains such as the Jungfrau and the Eiger make the region very popular for mountain hiking and climbing.
