About Hawaii
Hawaii, ('Ōlelo Hawai'i: Hawai'i) is the 50th State of the United States of America (USA). The state contains 8 main islands; Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island (also called Big Island), Kauai, Niihau, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe. While all the Hawaiian islands are volcanic in origin, only Hawaii Island has active volcanoes, found in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, which has been active for over 20 years slowly adding more land to the eastern side of the island.
Oahu - Oahu is the most populated of the Hawaiian islands and receives the most visitors. When most people think of Hawaii, all they think of is Waikiki on Oahu. It is here, in Honolulu, that the vast majority of all the hotels on Oahu, if not in the whole of Hawaii, are found lining the beaches. Oahu is also popular for surfing, especially the beaches along the north shore around Haleiwa like Sunset Beach and Banzai Beach. The full list of locations from Oahu can be found on the Oahu Panorama Index.
Hawaii Island - Hawaii Island is the largest of the Hawaiian islands and is also called Big Island. Hawaii Island is the youngest of the islands and the only one on which there is currently active volcanoes. Most people stay on the west side of the island, around Kailua Kona, where the climate is drier and there are better beaches. When on Hawaii Island, visiting Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park is a must, as is travelling down Chain of Craters Road to see the lava entering the sea. The full list of locations from Hawaii Island can be found on the Hawaii Island Panorama Index.
