About Baja California Sur

Baja California Sur (South Lower California) occupies the southern part of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. Most of the state is bounded by sea, with Pacific Ocean to the west and south and the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortés) to the east. To the north, there is a narrow land border with Baja California state. The capital city is La Paz, which is the largest city in the state and an important tourist destination. Blessed with thousands of miles of coastline, with sierras and deserts inland, Baja California Sur has numerous popular beaches and resorts, providing luxury holidays. Popular holiday activities include whale watching, diving and snorkelling, sea kayaking and fishing. Within the mountains are various caves containing pre-historic cave paintings. Baja California Surn also hosts the SCORE Baja 500 and Baja 1000 off-road races, which traverses some of the more remote regions of the peninsula.
