California - United States of America


California State is on the west coast of the United States of America. To the north lies Oregon, to the east is Nevada and to the southeast is Arizona. Mexico lies along the southern border of California. To the southwest is Hawaii, albeit about 2,000 miles away in the Pacific Ocean.

California is the most populated state in the US, and has one of the largest economies in the world. The state capital is Sacramento, and the four main cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, and San Francisco. There are many nationally and internationally famous parks and national treasures including the Sierra Nevada mountains, Yosemite Valley Death Valley and Sequoia National Park which is home to the largest trees on earth. The California White Mountains contain some of the oldest trees in the world, there is one Bristlecone pine estimated to be 4,700 years old.

Well know for the gold rush in the 19th Century, California has more recently seen the Celebrity rush that is focused on Hollywood in Los Angeles, and the Computer and hi-tech boom of the Silicon Valley, especially around Palo Alto where the headquarters of many global technological companies like Google, Yahoo, HP and Apple are found.

This California map shows some of the sights, attractions and places of interest in the state in a unique way.
