The state of North Carolina is on the Atlantic Seaboard on the eastern coast of the southern United States. It shares lands borders, clockwise from the south, with the states of South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia. The capital city of North Carolina is Raleigh, but the largest city in the state is Charlotte.

Geographically, North Carolina consists of the coastal plain, covering nearly the eastern half of the state. Further west is the Piedmont region of North Carolina, and beyond this are the foothills and peaks of the stunning Appalachian Mountains.

North Carolina Tourism

Due to the diverse geography and rich history, North Carolina has plenty to offer visitors, from beach holidays to skiing resorts in the mountains. The outdoors also offers plenty of opportunities for various water sports like fishing (both fresh water and deep sea), sailing, canoeing, diving and the like. The mountains inland are popular for skiing, cycling, biking, climbing, caving and hunting.

The state is full of wildlife making it popular with nature lovers and birdwatchers. There are numerous ATV trails and plenty of camping sites, gardens, and arboretums to explore.
