On the norther side of the junction is Apsley House, built between 1771 and 1778. The house is reputed to be among the best Grand Houses in London. Hyde Park corner is a short walk from several other major London attractions including Princess Dianna Memorial Fountain, Clarence House in Green Park and Buckingham Palace. Situated at the southern end of Mayfair, Hyde Park Corner is very close to several top London hotels like the Sheraton Park Lane, London Hilton Mayfair Hotel, London Marriott Hotel Park Lane and the Dorchester.
In the middle of Hyde Park Corner stands Wellington Arch, also known as Constitution Arch or (originally) the Green Park Arch. This triumphal arch, along with was built by George IV to celebrate Britain's victories in the Napoleonic Wars. Wellington Arch stands at the top of Constitution Hill which leads down to Buckingham Palace. Originally, Wellington Arch was topped by a statue of Sir Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington. This was replaced in 1912 by a bronze quadriga depicting the angel of peace descending on the chariot of war. It is the largest bronze statue in Europe.
