On 24th October 2014 I joined people from ABC Trust doing the Big City Sleep, a sponsored sleep-out to raise money for street children in Brazil. This picture was taken at 5am as we were getting up and beginning to clear the site. We did this for one night, many do it every day.
ABC Trust Big City Sleep 2014 in Spittlefield Market - charity event raising money for vulnerable children in the favelas of Brazil, where one child is killed every 90 minutes in drug related crime.
For the last six years, ABC Trust has run the Big City Sleep to raise funds for projects helping children living on the streets, or in danger of doing so, in Brazil. The 2014 Big City Sleep was the 6th such annual event that ABC Trust has helped run.
Held once again by Spittlefied Market, the sleep out drew about 50 people who converted part of the site into a temporary card board city. Participants selected their floor mat from a pile of cardboard and bedded down for the night. Unlike the homeless children, Big City Sleep participants were watched over by security for the night. The early part of the evening included Brazilian dance lessons, a silent disco, silent Brazilian film and a chance to do some graffiti.
