Sculptures by the Lakes captures the desire of artist Simon Gudgeon to create an environment that frees art from the constraints of enclosed spaces of a traditional gallery while blending nature with the art. The lakes cover some 26 acres, surrounded by walkways with 34 of Simon's sculptures carefully set in ways to enhance both the work and the surroundings. Several of the sculptures emerge dramatically from the water. Found just south of Dorchester in the small village of Pillington, a visit to Sculptures by the Lakes is not to be rushed, as the setting itself is one of natural beauty encouraging relaxation.
In addition to the works found around the lakes, there are more sculptures and paintings found by various international artists in a small gallery on site, many of whom are new to the UK.
