Chestnut Street is perhaps best-known as an ultra-fashionable shopping district and scene to hang-out and people-watch whilst sitting at sidewalk cafes. Generations of San Francisco's youth have flocked here to see and be seen. Whilst that remains, Chestnut Street is also an excellent venue for quality shopping, including the recent opening of an Apple Store. Whilst the nearby Pier 39 malls and restaurant cuisine caters for general interest, Chestnut Street aims for distinctive, discernment and individual boutique style.
This intersection shows the steep slope down Hyde Street towards the Bay area. Chestnut street runs perpendicular, through the Marina and Cow Hollow districts, parallel to Union and Lombard Streets.
